Inaugural tasting |
We are two guys who like to drink a combination of hops, barley, grain and carbonated water which is more sublimely known as beer. Normally, we partake in Lite beers such as Miller Lite or even the dreaded Busch Lite. Dreaded—because Joe honestly believes it is brewed with something that is designed to give him a headache that would kill a small animal but Justin somehow always has around----always. We enjoy these lite beers and believe they are perfect if drinking such a large amount of beer that a song will be written about it*, is the goal but we have decided that we want to broaden our beer palate by trying for quality. That's what this blog is about. We are going on a journey of beer exploration and we will share what we discover.
The premiere review belongs to an Indiana beer, specifically, Indiana Amber. This American red ale is brewed in the fine city of Greencastle, IN by OakenBarrel Brewing Company. It is a medium body amber beer that has a malty taste at first with the hops kicking in as it goes down. The malt flavor gives the beer a bit of sweet feel at first but the hops bitterness offsets that as it goes down the throat. This gives the beer a well-balanced taste that improves as your palate acclimates to it.
We both recommend this beer and give it 3.5 out of 5. It's a beer that we would like to revisit on our beer journey.
*Actually, there has been a song written about it. It's called 105 bottles of beer on the wall. It's much like the classic 99 bottles of beer on the wall but with MORE BEER.
